On Sunday afternoon Skipper Jelmer van Beek helmed the VO65 of Team JAJO as third across the finish line in The Hague. Twenty minutes after first finisher VO65 Team WindWhisper Racing Team (POL) and about ten minutes after the Trifork / Mirpuri Racing Team. On arrival, the predominantly Dutch team, six of the ten sailors are Dutch, were cheered and applauded by the massive home crowd.
"It's good to be home," said Team JAJO skipper Jelmer van Beek. "It has been a short and hectic three day race. Awesome to arrive for this home crowd and we were cheered on by all the boats out on the water and all the fans in the harbour. We even had some spectator boats already following us from IJmuiden which was really magnificent. Now it’s time for some beers, food and a short sleep!"
WindWhisper Racing Team has now opened up a three point margin on the VO65 Sprint leaderboard, but the standings behind are very close and the Grand Finale leg into Genova will be decisive.
An estimated 40,000 visitors visited the Live Ocean Park throughout the day. Many viewers also gathered on this summer's day on the beach and at the jetty. It is estimated that a total of about 55,000 people watched the arrival of The Ocean Race in Scheveningen.
